“Do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you.” – 1 Peter 4:12
No one can really foresee what will happen next only God knows. In a wink of an eye, Manny Pacquiao, the Filipinos’ pride plunged flat and face down into the canvass, right in front of his promoter, Bob Arum while the audience at MGM’s Grand Garden Arena gazed in shock.
As if, the turning of the planet around its orbit stood still. The Filipino people could not believe it, their hero was fallen. The sixth round was almost over when Manny was hit by a lucky punch. Although he had a knockdown in the third round of the fight, he subsisted.
Jinkee Pacquiao, the wife of Manny Pacquiao, cried and was almost hysterical for being shocked seeing his beloved husband fall flat and not moving for several seconds. Thanks God the result of Pacquiao’s CT scan was just fine.
Foreboding maybe is the introduction of Mitt Romney, the defeated presidential candidate when he greeted Manny, “Hi, Manny, I’m Mitt Romney. I ran for president. I lost.” Well, it could just be coincidence. Just the same, whatever it is, the notion that nothing happens by chance may be more true.
Ridiculous but understandable is when closest relatives of Pacquiao blamed his defeat on his overindulgence on Bible study. A changed man having left his vices in life because of his faith, his two successive defeats could be considered his greatest test.
No less than his mother, Mommy Dionesia, blamed the pastors of Pacquiao’s new found faith as the reason why Pacquiao’s loss, befallen him.
Though getting knocked down or knocked out cannot be foreseen, one thing is sure, boxers no matter how strong and great they are, get hit or even knocked down/out.
Although Pacquiao admitted being over confident when he knocked down Marquez on the fifth round, he cannot also discount the fact that there could be a message to him why he experienced such kind of defeat. Failure to understand the things that happens to one’s life could lead to a shaken faith.
Indeed, life’s challenges are not designed to break us but to bend us toward our God. Hence, it is not fair to blame one’s defeat on Bible study. Instead, Pacquiao have to discern and open his faith wide and continue searching for the truth.
The Bible if used with the guidance of a true messenger of God is the perfect guide to live a peaceful and meaningful life no matter what the cost.
To think that Pacquiao was knocked down during the sixth round which he was about to win the round considering that in the overall point by point he is leading, but in a split second he fall, only shows that no human really could be in control.
Thus, Pacquiao with more reason should trust that there is somebody up there who is truly in control.
His first knock out loss after more than a decade, 13 years to be exact and his controversial defeat with Timothy Bradley, for sure has a message to tell. He only has to find it out.
