Manila, Philippines – The “Ito Ang Balita” (IAB) of UNTV 37, was the only primetime television news program that received the ANAK TV Seal Award for 2012. It could be considered unusual for a primetime TV news program to receive such an award, taking into account the incidents of rampant killings, robberies, drug related abuses, calamities and other series of violence that are in the news these days.
The lead anchor of IAB is no other than the CEO of UNTV 37 Mr. Public Service Daniel Razon together with Ms. Veronica Alejar. Alejar received the award in behalf of UNTV 37. In her speech, she gave the glory and gratitude first of all to God and promised to continue delivering news that is not gory, non-violent and not exaggerated.
The ANAK TV Group is an organization advocating a child-sensitive and family-friendly television. They are educating parents and guardians about the perils and advantages of television by advising them to be careful in choosing television programs for children’s viewing. They stand as the forerunners of television literacy in the country.
The list of television networks, arranged according to the most number of programs that received the ANAK TV Seal Awards for 2012 are presented below. It was based on the results of continuous consultations conducted by the ANAK TV Group from various consultative meetings, symposia with different social organizations, consisting mostly of the masses and different civic organizations, founded on a feedback scheme as to who are the Most Admired and Most Child-Friendly television programs:
NET 25 25
UNTV 37 19
GMA 7 17
TV 5 9
ZOE TV 7
Studio 23 1
It is noticeable from the above list that ABS-CBN and NET 25 garnered a tie as the most in number. Remarkable also is UNTV 37 which garnered 19 ANAK TV Seal Awards for this year alone considering the short span of time that UNTV’s humble beginnings was seen by the public as compared to the other giant networks.
It can be noted therefore that ANAK TV does not really base its criteria on the length of time but on the quality of the programs shown for the viewing public’s judgment.
The awarding was held at the Lord’s Flock Heritage Auditorium at West Avenue Corner Del Monte Avenue, Quezon City.
The Anak TV Foundation also launched its new fund raising project, the family fun walk entitled “Lakad Mag-Anak Para sa Anak” (Walk Families For The Child) on January 27, 2013 at the UP Diliman.
The objective of the family fun walk was to give the family time to be together. According to Ms Elvira Yap Go, ANAK TV Foundation President, “It’s really more fun to be together. All networks were very cooperative, agreed to help and support the project.”
